Playgroups and cylchoedd meithrin (Welsh medium playgroups) provide pre-school childcare for chidren aged from 2 or 2-and-a-half years up to 5 years. Sessions usually last around 2 or 3 hours in the morning or afternoon, Monday to Friday during term time. Some playgroups and cylchoedd meithrin offer lunch clubs and nursery wraparounds to provide childcare for nursery school children.
Playgroups and cylchoedd meithrin can be registered with CIW or unregistered, if they open for less than 2 hours per day. Some registered playgroups and cylchoedd meithrin in Torfaen are also approved nursery education providers. This means that parents/carers of 3 and 4 year old children can choose for their child to access their funded nursery education place at one of the approved playgroups/cylchoedd meithrin.
