Access to Parenting Support

Flying Start is all about providing support for the whole family – as well as the extended family.  Children don’t come with a manual and looking after them is so so hard.  No one has all the answers.  Parenting groups give you an opportunity to meet other parents and work together to develop their skills to support their child’s development, care and wellbeing.   The groups cover things like coping/managing children’s behaviour, developing routines, potty training, sleep problems and many other common parenting issues.  Plus it gives you chance to have a cup of tea in peace.  As well as the group sessions, you are welcome to talk to Flying Start staff on a one-to-one basis about aspects of parenting.

We run drop-in sessions like Baby Club and Family Fun Time.  These are focused on playing, learning and growing.  You have the biggest part to play in your child’s development and in these sessions you can have fun reading, singing and playing with your child, whilst sharing ideas with other families and staff.

We run courses that need to be booked onto as they run for a specific amount of time such as Family Links and Incredible Years.  There are courses for when you are pregnant up until your child is ready to go to school and even though it is run by someone else we can also signpost to courses for those with troublesome teenagers. Anyone within a Flying Start area can access these courses and they are held across Torfaen.
